Background & History

Wades Landing is owned by Steve and Cheryl Carr. Cheryl was born and raised in the area and comes from a farming background. Cheryl progressed to become a stock manager on a local farm. Horses were a big feature on this farm and to this end Cheryl started a horse trekking business and was running a few canoes down the Whanganui River.

Cheryl met Steve when he was possum trapping, deer hunting and doing casual rural farm work. Cheryl forged a long relationship with Steve in the adventure industry running canoes and jet boating on the Whanganui River over the past 20 years.

Steve has been working in our forests and bush in the North Island since he could walk. Goat culling, deer shooting, possum trapping and then on to jet boating and canoeing on the Whanganui River.

Cheryl & Steve CarrCheryl and Steve purchased the iconic Slalom Lodge 2-3 years ago and changed the name to Wades Landing and have spent this time working to improve all aspects of the lodge and pride themselves in providing professional, friendly and helpful service.

On behalf of Cheryl and myself and the team at Wades Landing Lodge, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our nature playground and are looking forward to being of service to you in the future.
